Zeeschelp Foundation

Stichting Zeeschelp (The Zeeschelp Foundation) in Kamperland, The Netherlands depends on grants. A stable energy price is necessary to stay afloat. Energy Portfolio Management by COMCAM is the answer.

About the client

Stichting Zeeschelp is a marine aquaculture testing station. Tenants of the building include entrepreneurs, scientists and individuals who want to use the facilities.

The challenge

Water from the Eastern Scheldt is pumped into the property and then continuously circulated. This process consumes a vast amount of electricity, some 100,000 kilowatts per year. One of the tenants saw a fivefold increase in his energy expenses in 2020. Alarm bells went off, and COMCAM was contacted immediately.

COMCAM’s consultants started a dialogue with the property owner responsible for the building’s energy contracts.

One of the tenants saw a fivefold increase in his energy expenses in 2020. Alarm bells went off.

The solution

Through Energy Portfolio Management, COMCAM reduced the cost per kilowatt from 25 cents to 5.5 cents by 2020. This reduction was hugely important because there was a good chance that the research institute would have gone bankrupt due to excessive energy costs.

From 2020 onwards, COMCAM will draw up the energy procurement strategy, keeping energy affordable for Stichting Zeeschelp.
